Creative Therapy

Pembrokeshire

What Is Creative Therapy?

Creative Therapy is a gentle, expressive way of working that uses symbols, images, metaphors, and sensory processes to help you explore what’s happening inside — especially when words feel limited or hard to find.

In sessions, we might use objects such as nesting dolls (also known as Matryoshka dolls or Russian dolls), therapeutic cards, or simple drawing to support reflection and emotional expression.

These tools offer different pathways into understanding: they can help you see things from a new perspective, connect with deeper layers of experience, and express feelings that may be difficult to put into words.

Creative Therapy isn’t about being artistic — it’s about giving your inner world another way to speak, at a pace that feels safe, intuitive, and grounded.

Do I need to be artistic?

Not at all. Creative Therapy isn’t about skill or producing something “good.” It’s about using simple tools — like Matryoshka (Russian or nesting) dolls, therapeutic cards, or drawing — to help your inner experience speak in a different way.

Why use objects like dolls or cards?

Working with objects creates distance and safety. Seeing something outside yourself—a symbol, a card, a doll—can make it easier to understand what’s happening inside and explore feelings without becoming overwhelmed.

How do I know which creative tools to use?

You don’t need to decide ahead of time. We explore together, and you choose what feels comfortable. Some sessions include lots of creative elements; others are mostly conversation. Both are equally valid.

Is Creative Therapy suitable if I prefer talking?

Yes. Creative Therapy can be entirely conversational. The creative elements are optional—they’re available when they feel helpful.

What can Creative Therapy help with?

It can support emotional regulation, clarity, self‑understanding, trauma processing, stuckness, overwhelm, and experiences that are hard to put into words.

Will I have to share what I create or explain its meaning?

You never have to explain or interpret anything you create. Sometimes a drawing, a symbol, or a nesting doll simply “feels right” without needing words. We explore at your pace, and you choose what you want to share. The process supports your inner experience—not analysing or performing.
